The answer is twofold. Firstly, Crono has not traveled back in time yet, which would preclude Melchior knowing him in any respect. Keep in mind that the history of the Chrono series is not predetermined; the theme of the games is that people can change history for the better. Secondly, the version of Melchior rescued from [[Mt. Woe]] may not exist after the game's events. This relates to the theory of [[Time Bastard]], stating that this Melchior would be precluded in existence by the original one, who traveled to [[1000 A.D.]] In fact, the new Melchior's disappearance forms some of the basis of Time Bastard; even though he's safe in [[Last Village]] during the new [[Ocean Palace Incident]], he disappears into a "black gate" as noted by the [[Last Village Elder]].

Inquiry

Melchior sees Crono at the Millennial Fair, but does not recognize him. Why is this so, if Crono met him back in 12000 B.C.?

Answer

The answer is twofold. Firstly, Crono has not traveled back in time yet, which would preclude Melchior knowing him in any respect. Keep in mind that the history of the Chrono series is not predetermined; the theme of the games is that people can change history for the better. Secondly, the version of Melchior rescued from Mt. Woe may not exist after the game's events. This relates to the theory of Time Bastard, stating that this Melchior would be precluded in existence by the original one, who traveled to 1000 A.D. In fact, the new Melchior's disappearance forms some of the basis of Time Bastard; even though he's safe in Last Village during the new Ocean Palace Incident, he disappears into a "black gate" as noted by the Earthbound Chief.
